There’s something rather special happening in the hills of the Conwy Valley.
Cae’r Faban Farm is our home, our workplace and, increasingly, the beginning of a collection of things we love: bees and honey, growing and making, good food, Welsh produce, wildlife and sharing this beautiful corner of North Wales with others.
Set amongst the hills near Llanrwst, the farm changes almost daily with the seasons. Our orchards produce apples, pears, plums, cherries and damsons; our Kune Kune pigs explore the fields; ducks wander around as though they own the place; and hundreds of thousands of honey bees head out across the surrounding countryside in search of nectar and pollen.
At the centre of it all is a simple idea: make more from the place we already have, but do it properly.
From the Farm
We’re developing a range of small-batch products inspired by what grows and lives here.
Our bees are producing seasonal Welsh honey under Mel Gwenyn y Noddfa – Honey Bee Refuge, while fruit from the farm is finding its way into preserves, seasonal produce and our own drinks.
Nothing here is designed to be mass-produced.
Our honey, for example, will be identified by harvest and vintage, celebrating the fact that no two seasons—and therefore no two jars—are exactly the same.
A Home for the Bees
Beekeeping has quickly become one of the most exciting parts of Cae’r Faban.
Alongside our existing forage, we’re establishing mānuka (Leptospermum) plants on the farm as part of our work to create a diverse source of nectar for our bees.
Our ambition is to produce a genuinely distinctive Welsh Floral Mānuka Honey that reflects this landscape rather than trying to imitate honey produced thousands of miles away.
It will take time. That’s rather the point.
Stay a While
Cae’r Faban is also home to 692 Hideaway, our luxury rural retreat.
Named for its position approximately 692 feet above sea level, it’s somewhere to switch off, open the doors to the Welsh countryside and experience a little of farm life without having to get up and feed the pigs in the morning.
Guests can explore the surrounding Conwy Valley and Eryri, discover local food and—if we’re doing our job properly—leave with a taste of Cae’r Faban too.
This Is Only the Beginning
This website is going to become our journal as much as our shop.
We’ll share the progress of our apiary, honey harvests, new products, orchard life, planting projects, recipes, wildlife, the occasional farm disaster and plenty of things we haven’t thought of yet.
Some ideas will work.
Some probably won’t.
That’s farm life.
